What makes the sunset? What makes the moonrise?

Our general direction was towards Salt Lake City. From Havasu, this meant Route 15 through Las Vegas again which we were going to have none of. After a few more looks at the map, our route would be through Boulder City, Lakeshore Rd at the edge of Lake Mead then up scenic route 167 to Valley of Fire State Park at the very North end of Lake Mead. I would recommend this route to everyone. Every part of it was beautiful with Valley of Fire at sunset exceeding our expectations!

Highlights of the trip:

  • Boulder City is a very quaint, hip town close to the Hoover Dam. Both Eric and I said we could live here but after checking out the local real estate, we're going to keep wandering!

  • Scenic Route 167 in Nevada. Beautiful winding, hilly road that is in very good condition. Lots of colorful rock formations, mountains and desert. Vast is our word of the day :-)

  • Valley of Fire Nevada State Park is stunning red rock formations and petrified wood that throws a bright red fire as the afternoon sun hits the rocks. Impressive place!

No room for us to camp inside the park as it is First Come, First Serve only but this doesn't bother us a bit. We found a BLM road that was just perfect to watch the sun set.

Sunset looking back towards Las Vegas

I even got up early the next morning to watch the sun rise. It was simply spectacular.

As we discussed our next path over coffee and sunrise, we decided to leave this glorious place and head towards Zion National park...Until the weather happened!

See you on the road!
