We tried to secure a fishing guide to fish the Coquille near the coast. Turns out that it was after Salmon season and before Steelhead. No guide available. We definitely kept ourselves entertained but after we came up empty handed on the Metolius. Eric took it upon himself to secure a guide on Henry's Fork of the Snake River.
This plan allowed us a few more days with family before we headed towards Yellowstone and eventually home. Some special love to Stephanie and Mike for sharing your lives with us ❤️
Always good to see our son, Matt. Thank you for making the time ❤️
And love to our Aunts and Uncles in Vale. We so enjoy spending time with you. Your generosity always warms our hearts ❤️
(Of course no pictures 😞)
Now on to Island Park to hunt our Trout!!
We arrived the day before our float to set up camp, check in with guide company and explore around.
Cute protected boondock site in bear country on the shores of the Henry. We decided grilling our pork chops wasn't the best camp decision so off to town for dinners during our stay!
Mesa Falls was a nice excursion just down the road. Turns out we tried to camp here in spring of 2023 but the abundant snow forced us to go elsewhere 😜

This afternoon was much different with a beautiful short walk to view the upper falls
Another beautiful chilly morning started our eight hour fishing float

Our guide, Tater, was great. He looked at our flies, comment on my ancient fly box and one of Eric's dry flies. Then he led us to their fly selection, picked a Chubby, a Spider, and a couple of bugs for our Float, float, drop rig. Our favorite bugs were a redneck and a green dagger which brought us over 20 fish over the day! According to Tater, we caught the grand slam: Rainbows, a brown, white fish and suckers. He was a wealth of knowledge with a dry wit and good guiding skills. We will look him up again when in the area
And almost as enjoyable was the float scenery. Such beautiful country with added bonus of no crowds in mid-October
The weather forecast has turned cold with wind and snow at elevations. We rescheduled our Yellowstone camp site for next summer to finally explore Tower Fall and north eastern parts of the park
Early Thursday morning we head south and east towards home 🏠
See you on the road
