Coast to Coast…Again!

Updated: Oct 18, 2024

It took us almost four months this year and not all in one trip but Grover has gone from eastern tip of Long Island west to coast of Oregon.

Just a little about our trip to Montauk, Long Island NY in June. Our son-in-law, Luke, grew up on the Island and convinced us to meet them out on the eastern tip for a true beach adventure.

Four days, four people totally self contained; meaning we needed to camp with no ability to dump our waste tanks or fill our fresh tank. We did it! With plenty of fun and sunshine ☀️

Back home over the George Washington bridge for the summer after a quick stop to see where the kids are living and a wonderful evening with Ralph and Linda

If you've been following along, we headed westward in September and finally hit the beach just south of Brandon, OR at the end on the month. We experienced our first encounter of full campgrounds at every state park we called so we explored county parks finding a wonderful string of places on our tour of the coast. Boice-Cope park was first up on the shore of Flora Lake.

Although it was windy, we all enjoyed the late afternoon sun of the Pacific Ocean

We also discovered we arrived at the end of Dungeness Crab Season 😢 but we did feast on delicious Rock Fish, Lin Cod, and Halibut. I have to say the crab cakes and clam chowder were was also quite scrumptious! Eric had his fill of oysters 🦪🦪🦪. Ew! Of course I took no pictures of these restaurants and dishes but Eric did catch a couple!

Of course there was some breakfast Bills games that I did capture!

As we headed north, our next stop was Coos Bay where we had a wonderful family vacation stop at Sunset Bay in August, 2003

We stayed high above the ocean at Bastendorff Campground for the weekend.

Sites were small but the weather was amazing to explore the local beaches

Our last stop on the coast was just beyond Yachats (pronounced Yah Hots) at Tillicum Campground. This is a beautiful spot right on the beach with First Come First Served sites. Locals refer to the Tillicum shuffle as campers are constantly moving to obtain a better spot as it becomes available. We joined this dance for our two day stay, happy with both our setups

The beach was equally beautiful and we again enjoyed a late afternoon sit to watch the world go by

The other must see in the area just south of Yachats is Cape Perpetua, one of the highest viewpoints on the Oregon Coast, with views of the Pacific Ocean, the Cape Perpetua, Thors Well, Spouting Horn and miles of rocky beaches. They say on a clear day you can see up to 70 miles of shoreline and 35 miles out to sea. I think we nailed it!

Spouting Horn

Thor's Well

It was time to head back over the Cascades so we rose early to get some miles behind us before the day got away from us. The drive up through Waldport, past Seal Rock and up to Newport remind us of the changing coastline and we have much more to see!

Until next time 😀

See you on the road
