This little guy stole Eric's heart while visiting our son and daughter-in-law just south of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Quailen was rescued from their window well two springs ago. It was too deep for him to get out, so they brought him inside as a pet. He seems perfectly content with this lifestyle. Cassy, the dog, and Momo, the cat don't mind. Neither do the various chickens that around.
Quailen is a California Quail, one of over 43 different species of quail. Chelsea feeds Qauilen seeds and grain as main diet but string cheese is a delicious snack!
The birdsong of the Quail is social event for the birds. When we played the following youtube song, https://youtu.be/55l0kYEJBww, Quailen chimed right back to join the fun. It is the "chi-ca-go" that is the most recognizable call of the Quail but if you listen to the video, you can hear his chatter as Eric filmed him. He was so happy to show us his Strut!
Quailen loved to follow Eric around the house, into the bathroom, up and down his arm. He especially liked to sit on his shoulder and peck at his beard and hair. For those of us who have been picked on by Eric, it was entertaining to see the bird had turned the table on who was on top of the "picking" order!
It wasn't all about the quail during our visit in West Jordon. We also had fun with the dog, the chickens...and of course the humans!!
The days were busy exploring new restaurants; Mr & Mrs Crabs, and enjoying Chris and Chelsea's favorites: The Original Pancake House & Bohemian Bewery.
We watched movies in the evening which usually puts me right to sleep! Believe it or not, "The Menu" kept me awake with the illogical plot and prickily twists. It's classified as a horror movie, which I am NOT a fan of, but I'm going to give it 5 stars as a dark comedy. Look it up the next time you can't decide what to watch!
Our time together ended too quickly but in our new wandering, retired life I am sure we will be back soon.
North we go again towards Boise but not without a wander or two on the way.
