The final leg of our journey with our friend was a straight shot north to Fort Sill, Oklahoma in the town of Lawton. We decided to split the 450 mile trip into two days for a couple of
reasons.
Grover doesn't travel much more than 60 mph and 450 miles in one day to too long for us retired folk!
We wanted to have a "last supper" celebration before we said goodbye.
We're getting better at stopping along our route so today, we decided to lunch in Marble Falls along the Colorado River. Mexican cravings abounded in our posse so Linda had

scoped out a local Cantina. As we entered through the rear of the restaurant Linda and I stopped at the restroom and as we looked around, the establishment definitely did not feel Mexican. Metal fish on the counter, fish shaped signs, hooks wrapped with rope. Nope, this is not the place we picked; it was a seafood restaurant. We looked to find Eric and tell him the misstep but he was already sitting at our table having a beer. Le Stourgeon Seafood Company turned out to be the best mistake we had made on our trip so far! Everything from the fried catfish to the avocado salad with salmon/shrimp was delicious.
Since we were unsure of what was on the road ahead, we also stopped to provision for the evening and coming days. H*E*B seems to be a grocer on par with Wegmans. Our shopping trip did not disappoint as we loaded up with Texas ribeyes and bakers the size of my foot! Remember, everything is bigger in Texas! As I wandered the ailes, all kinds of things I "needed" presented themselves...ready made soups in cute little cardboard boxes, mesquite charcoal for our cooking fire, tortillas made with corn AND flour, tiny containers of olive olive and soy sauce, and so much more!!

We pulled into our camp site, Fort Richardson in Jacksboro, TX later than we had hoped but that did not stop our fabulous evening. The three of us moved like a well
oiled machine, each with tasks to hook up, level out and get the dinner started. It was dark and 34 degrees but the stars were bright and the fire cooked meal was fantastic!
This was a Texas State Park and I can't say enough good things about it. The sites were large with lots of trees, the restrooms were clean & heated. I would have liked
to stayed longer but we were all anxious to meet Matteo and get on our way the next morning. A quick walk along the trail by the Lost River was all we allowed ourselves
before hitting the road.
Saying goodbye was bittersweet. We've had so much fun and adventure with our friends it was hard to part. On the other hand, our adventure with just the two of us (and Nellie)
was just starting.
Nice to meet you Matteo!!
As we set out to the Doris Campground in the Wichita Mountains Wilderness Area, my heart raced with excitement and anticipation of Chapter Two.
See you on the road!
