Back to what I know, Back to Idaho

Chapter 1

Idahome

While we have been wandering around the past 2 months, "Where are you from?" is a common conversational opener. Despite the fact that we have lived together on the east coast for over 25 years, Eric's reply remains constant, "I'm from Idaho."

We had stopped Cactus Pete's in Jackpot, NV for the night. RV park at the casino, broke

even at the black jack machine and a marginal dinner turned into a snow covered morning for our voyage into Idaho.

The day was stormy but that did not deter us from wandering a bit through the back roads of Idaho. We had a fun ride to Balanced Rock, checked out Miracle Hot Springs, and enjoyed the locals with a beer at Wilson's Club in Hagerman.

After some searching on googlemaps, we decided to head over to BLM land on the east side of the Snake River to camp. If you follow Eric on Facebook, you have already seen many of these pictures. The stormy skies and the golden fields were just awe inspiring. These pictures has also made our trailer somewhat of a celebrity, the Intech FB Group changed their cover photo to the one Eric had posted. He is so proud to be from Idaho!

Chapter 2

Treefort

Five days, 530 artists from 19 countries, 39 venues; never got warmer than 41 degrees....

It is our sixth time to catch this musicfest in downtown Boise, ID. It has grown so big that it is impossible to see all the bands you'd like. We try to prepare by listening to the various lineups on youtube/spotify but when you are in it, there is always some recommended band you had not heard of, the band before or after the one you scoped out, someone else's pick that turns out to be fantastic. We decided to count this year the number of shows we saw. Thirty one was our target to make ourselves feel good about the cost of the 5 day pass! There was quite a bit of discussion on what counts as a show; was it a full show? last 10 minutes of the set? Listening from across the park where we were huddled around a heater? Conservatively, we hit our target but some may say we were well beyond! So hard to pick favorites but I'll share some of the best of we saw for the music as well as the show. Check them out!

Dispite the cold, rain and snow, we had a great time!

Chapter 3

Bogus Basin

We brought our fly rods, golf clubs, and downhill skis with us on our wander. Until last Thursday, we had used none of these items. You may have heard about all the snow out west here, so although it was the end of March, we embraced the non-spring weather and went skiing for the first time this year. Bogus Basin is a non-profit recreation area just16 miles outside of Boise, ID. Those 16 miles and 3,000 ft up to the base of Bogus are some of the most twisting and hairpin turning drive we have been on. In town there was barely an inch of snow but as we zigzaged up the mountain road, the snowbanks steadily grew to more that 6 feet at the top. Although the video is on the way down, you'll get a feel for the road! Thank goodness we left Grover at home!

We had a great day exploring the mountain. We laughed as the high speed lifts took us up the 2,000 ft to the summit in the same time it takes to get up the 650 ft at the ski mountain/hill at home. More chuckles as we took a green circle trail, Silver Queen, that had similar terrain to the black diamond trails at home. Although I can say we did ski a black diamond during our day at Bogus, it was not a very long trail and certainly not the most difficult on the mountain. With another 52" of snow in the last 7 days, Bogus has extended their season to May 2nd. We're hoping to get back before the end of our time here in Boise. Who knows, maybe we'll even use our rods and clubs too!

Chapter 4

The Lux

The Neourlux is the modern day "Cheers" for Steph and Mike in Boise. A trendy live music venue in a historic building downtown, they talk about the great bands they've seen such as Lourde Huron, Lemmy, and countless others. They know all the bartenders and most of the patrons. It's a fun place to stop in and sometimes stay too long. We are grateful for Mike and Steph for all the hospitality they have shown us in our two weeks of being parked in front of their house in the North End of Boise. Although we'll wander a bit around the state, don't you worry - we'll be back!

As the Winter of 2023 continues to rage all around us, we're going to stay in Boise and the surrounding area for a few more weeks. More chapters to come.

Until then, see you on the road!
