We have targeted 500 miles a day for our cross country journey. Doesn't sound like much but between pulling Grover, walking the dog and a few necessary stops, it takes us between 9-10 hours each day or an average of 56 miles an hour. Luckily the time zones are helping us out as we head west, allowing extra hours of daylight! Today is day six and I look forward to arriving in Boise this afternoon!
Highlights of each day this week.
As we left Liberty Township Monday morning,

we headed west across the 'I' states. Monday evening brought us to Pershing State Park, MO is a small campground with a 2 mile boardwalk through the forest. Eric and Nellie loved it! The weather was perfect so I even drove the rig for the final hour.
Tuesday brought Nebraska. Nebraska is notable for a number of reasons that you may have not know.
We traveled along Route 41, just south of I80 to make these miles a bit more interesting. Typical rural towns dotted the landscape in between large fields of corn , rolling hills, and wind turbines.
We stopped for lunch at The Fox Hole in Wilber, NE. Appropriate place for a couple of wandering foxes!!
The interesting thing about Wilber, NE is that it is the Czech capital of USA. Declared as such by Ronald Regan in 1987. The Czech's first settled here because the landscape mirrored their homeland. If you come here in August, enjoy the annual Czech festival or other times of the year be sure to stop for amazing Czech cuisine and delicious jerky at Jacks smoke shop.
The second notorious town we drove through was Kearney, NE.

The Sandhill Crane Capital of the World! Although we did not see one crane, this is an important stop on their spring migration north. Nebraska is perfect as they eat 1,600 tons of corn in the Platte River basin!
We stayed at Sutherland Reservoir State Recreation Area that night. Nice spot with very few campers. It's just too bad that previous campers are so careless with garbage and waste. Makes us both so sad despite the lovely warm evening
Wednesday brought Wyoming and gusty winds as we tooled down I80. We started early and stopped for breakfast in Cheyenne at the Diamond Horseshoe before we drove 6 more hours to the Green River BLM campground called Weeping Rock. Through the smoked filled sky, we watched bald eagles and ospreys hunt the river as well as the falls across the river weep from the nearby reservoir
On our after dinner stroll, another camper showed us the resident owl. He stayed there our entire stay and it was cool to see him staring down at us. Can you see him??

Although we tried to stay and fish the next day, the wind was too strong so we took off towards Lava Hot Springs to have a soak and decide what to do from there.
Relaxed from our soak, we headed to a small BLM campground recommended by a fisherman at Weeping Rock. Up an impressive incline we reached Good Enough Creek and found a great site to watch the sunset and the Bills 'squish the fish'. Beautiful!!
This morning brought bright skies so brilliant that we had to enjoy a bit more time here. The walk by the creek was just the right way to say goodbye to this place.
All packed up and we are heading to see our Boise family and friends!
See you on the road
